Students, staff, families, and local veterans came together at William G. Houston Middle School for Lake Shore’s annual Veterans Wreath Ceremony, honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
Led by the Houston Middle School Civics Club, the event featured student readings, music, and a wreath-laying at the school’s Veterans Memorial. The ceremony also highlighted plans for the next phase of the memorial’s expansion, continuing a long-standing Lake Shore tradition of remembrance and civic engagement.
“This event shows our students what civic responsibility looks like in action,” said Civics Club advisor Jeffrey Ziobro. “They’re learning that honoring service means contributing to something larger than themselves.”
Principal Stacy Conti shared her gratitude for the students’ dedication: “Each new name added to the memorial represents a story of service and sacrifice, and our students take great pride in ensuring those stories are never forgotten.”
Superintendent Phil Johnson commended the effort, saying, “When our students take ownership of honoring veterans, they connect classroom lessons to real-world values of service, citizenship, and respect.”
