Houston Middle School Goes Freezin’ for a Reason

Houston Middle School made a big impact at this year’s Polar Plunge, with the HMS Cool Runnings team raising more than $10,000 for Special Olympics of WNY. Students and staff took the icy leap at Woodlawn Beach to support inclusive athletic opportunities for students across the region.
These donations directly benefit the Special Olympics programs that sponsor Lake Shore’s Unified Bowling and Unified Basketball teams. The support from our community ensures that students of all abilities have the chance to compete, grow, and represent Houston Middle and the district with pride.
Thank you to every plunging student and staff member for braving the cold, and thank you to the community for your steady support. Your contributions made this year’s effort a major success.
A special shoutout goes to Mr. Timothy Smelser for helping bring this event to life and rallying the team with real enthusiasm.
A proud day for Houston Middle School and a perfect example of what Freezin’ for a Reason looks like.
