Houston Middle Students Take a Stand for Red Ribbon Week

William G. Houston Middle School students joined together this week to celebrate Red Ribbon Week 2025, the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention campaign.
The highlight came on Tuesday, October 28, when dozens of students and staff lined Route 5 during 10th period for “Take a Stand Day,” holding signs and wearing red to show their commitment to living healthy, drug-free lives.
The event was organized by the school’s Community Service & Volunteering Club, Leaders in Training, and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). Throughout the week, students took part in themed activities and discussions about making positive choices and supporting one another.
“This event really shows how our students lead by example,” said Principal [Insert Name]. “They’re learning the importance of teamwork, advocacy, and responsibility—values that make our school and community stronger.”
Red Ribbon Week activities will continue district-wide, reinforcing Lake Shore’s commitment to student well-being and its One Lake Shore mission: rooted in tradition, ready for tomorrow.
